Revival Wiki

Revival #1 is the first issue of the Revival comic series. With story by Tim Seeley and art by Mike Norton, the issue was originally published on July 11, 2012, by Image Comics.

Synopsis[]

For one day in rural central Wisconsin, the dead came back to life. Now it's up to Officer Dana Cypress to deal with the media scrutiny, religious zealots, and government quarantine that has come with them. In a town where the living have to learn to deal with those who are supposed to be dead, Officer Cypress must solve a brutal murder, and everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect. A beautiful "farm noir" that puts a new twist on the zombie genre, created by NYT Bestselling author TIM SEELEY and acclaimed artist MIKE NORTON.[1]

Plot[]

Wausau, Wisconsin. The morning of January 21st. As snow falls, a zebroid runs then collapses bleeding.

At Highway 51, the Marathon County Sheriff's Department blocks the road and discusses those who attempted to cross the border seeking cures after Revival Day. Ibrahaim Ramin introduces himself to the Sheriff as the new C.D.C. liaison and asks about his indications for the R.C.A.T. The Sheriff says he will have his first meeting that morning and cuts Ibrahaim's attempts at talking, excusing himself.

In Rothschild, Officer Dana Cypress readies herself as she listens to a radio program discussing the religious and scientific implications of an incident. She calls her son, Cooper, who finishes playing outside with his toys. He sees a white figure and runs away when it sees him too. Dana tells Cooper she will drop him off at his father's; it is her weekend but she is needed at the station. Cooper sees as the white figure pronounces his name from behind a tree.

In the Rothschild Police Department, Dana suggests Lester slow down instead of talking his way out of every speeding ticket. He then asks the secretary about her plans that night. Dana discusses with Brent the worsening of that year's cabin fever, and she flusters at the arrival of the Sheriff, her father.

In the conference room, the Sheriff asks Dana's opinion on the Revivers. She says she is not sure; she does not believe in the supernatural aspect but shivers at the thought of them, and she gets mad at them for beating death but knows it is not their fault. The Sheriff explains the feds will not lift the quarantine until they are sure this is not a bioterrorism attack, and the C.D.C. does not know if "reviving" is a contagious disease. However, the Mayor convinced them a local crew would keep an eye on the Revivers and report to a C.D.C. liaison. The Sheriff explains the police will have a small unit dedicated to any crimes or conflicts involving "revitalized citizens," and he welcomes Dana to the Revitalized Citizen Arbitration Team.

Driving to her first case, Dana sees Martha standing on the bridge to Wausau. Martha says her car broke down; Dana tells her younger sister she should take advantage of being "daddy's favorite" and accept a new one from their father, so Martha confesses she just forgot to put gas on it. She asks to hang with Dana, who accepts as long as their father does not know about it and Martha stays put.

On their farm, Mr. and Mrs. Stankiewicz argue with their neighbor about their dead zebroid. Dana explains she was assigned to the case because they have a family member affected by Revival Day. She follows Nibbly's footprints and finds pills for high pressure in her blood. Mrs. Stankiewicz explains her mother used to take them, and Dana asks to see her. They find the woman in the barn, dozens of teeth on the ground. Reciting Bible verses, the woman pulls her teeth with pliers and puts dentures in her mouth. She says she never liked that horse because it was an abomination — same as her. Dana tells the woman to put the pliers down, but she turns and stabs her daughter in the neck.

Martha sees the commotion as the two men run into the barn. As Mr. Stankiewicz goes to call an ambulance, the woman blames Dana for making her kill her daughter and fight the neighbor off. The woman attacks Dana, saying heaven would not take her, but she just wanted to rest and sit with the Lord. Martha takes a scythe to fend off the woman from Dana, but the woman overpowers her and stabs Martha through the chest. As Martha falls dead, the woman returns to Dana and complains about the teeth that keep growing. With the top of her head cut off with the scythe, the woman falls dead. Dana watches as her sister's wounds mend back. Martha says she wanted to tell her, but she can't remember what happened, and asks Dana not to tell their father.
